Common questions

Yes — completely. The entire regulation database ships inside the app. You can browse every part, subpart, and section and run full-text searches with no internet connection. The only feature that requires connectivity is the eCFR live fallback, which opens eCFR.gov in a browser tab when your local search returns no results.
OSHA Reference includes the four major 29 CFR standard sets:
  • 29 CFR Part 1910 — General Industry
  • 29 CFR Part 1926 — Construction
  • 29 CFR Parts 1915–1919 — Maritime (Shipyards, Marine Terminals, Longshoring, Gear Certification)
  • 29 CFR Part 1928 — Agriculture
The database is updated with each app release. The version date is shown in Settings → About. For the most recently amended text, use the eCFR live fallback — it opens the authoritative eCFR.gov source, which is updated within days of Federal Register publication.
Incident Assessment is a step-by-step classification wizard that guides you through 29 CFR 1904.7 recordkeeping criteria. You answer a series of questions about what happened and what treatment was required, and the app classifies the incident as Near Miss, First Aid Only, OSHA Recordable, Lost Time/Restricted, or Fatality. Each classification links to the relevant regulatory citation. Contributing factors are also mapped to regulation sections to support your documentation.
Voice dictation is entirely on-device. OSHA Reference uses Apple's on-device speech framework — audio is never uploaded to any server, including Apple's servers or ours. This is especially important for incident documentation, where the details you're dictating may be legally sensitive.
Enter the ambient air temperature (°F) and relative humidity (%). The calculator applies the NOAA Rothfusz regression equation to compute the heat index — the "feels like" temperature that accounts for humidity's effect on the body's ability to cool itself.

Two OSHA threshold indicators are shown:
  • 80°F+ — Initial caution. Implement water, rest, and shade program; monitor workers for symptoms.
  • 90°F+ — High-heat protocol. Buddy system, mandatory rest periods, and emergency response planning required.
No account required, ever. OSHA Reference is a standalone offline app — there is no login, no registration, and no subscription. Your incident records and preferences stay on your device and are never synced or uploaded anywhere.
Yes. OSHA Reference is free to download and use. There are no in-app purchases, no subscription tiers, and no premium features gated behind a paywall. Everything described on this site is available to every user at no cost.
OSHA Reference runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 16 or later. An Apple Silicon or Intel Mac running macOS 13+ can also run the app via Mac Catalyst. An Android version is not currently available.
